Read Between the Wine

Chelsea’s Role: Founder, New York City Chapter President

Read Between the Wine was a social entrepreneurship venture founded by Chelsea Scott that connected women through books, retreats, events, and wine. The initiative focused on reading and discussing books written by Black women authors monthly, fostering a community of over 600 Black women aged 20-30 across the United States. From 2018-2022, Chelsea led the RBTW leadership committee and served as the New York City Chapter President. She managed a team of 15 women across 6 committees, overseeing the organization’s operations and growth strategy.

Project Impact

  • Community Building: Successfully expanded to multiple cities, creating a network of over 600 Black women.

  • Corporate Partnerships: Designed sponsorship packages and secured over $10,000 in sponsorships from notable partners like Smirnoff, Urban Skin, The Wing, and Endeavor.

  • Membership Growth: Achieved a 32% YoY membership growth in 2022, culminating in a community of over 600 active members.

  • Community Initiatives: Launched a junior book club for 100 middle school students in Washington DC in 2022.

  • Leadership Development: Developed and led a leadership committee of 15 women across 6 committees in various cities.

Transition & Legacy

After four years, Chelsea sunset Read Between the Wine in 2022 as she transitioned to the Wharton School of Business. This move allowed her to focus on her new passion project, Sunday Stories, a spin-off that continues the mission of Read Between the Wine in new and innovative ways.
