Food Entrepreneurship & Mass Incarceration
Launch Date: Spring 2024
Institution: The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
Food Entrepreneurship and Mass Incarceration is an independent study course developed by Chelsea Scott as part of her graduate studies at the Wharton School. The course, created under the guidance of Professor Damon J. Phillips, focuses on the intersection of food entrepreneurship and the challenges faced by individuals transitioning from incarceration to community integration. Chelsea was inspired to create this project after teaching Entrepreneurship in the Philadelphia Prison System through the Wharton Resilience Education Program during her first year. As part of this course, Chelsea developed the Philadelphia Food Entrepreneurship Resource Guide, a comprehensive resource tailored to support formerly incarcerated individuals in exploring opportunities within the food industry.
